Jesus "Jesse" Vera Sr.

Jesus (Jesse) I. Vera, 59, passed away September 10, 2024, surrounded by his family at home, in Abilene, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Monica Jimenez Vera, five children, Lora Vera, Nora Vera Rodriguez (Eusebio), Anthony Jimenez (Amanda), Jesus I. Vera Jr., and Rosa Vera. Five grandchildren, Jazzlynn Rodriguez, Jennafer Rodriguez, Delia Jimenez, Adylyne Espinoza, and Daniel Jimenez, his mother, Yolanda Barrera, one sister, Linda Vera and her son Ray Vera, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, fifteen nieces and nephews and thirty-seven great nieces and nephews. 

Jesse was born March 28, 1965, in Robstown, Tx. He worked in the construction business for well over 30 years. He started his own company in 1997, Jesse Vera Construction, LLC. In January of 2023, he was diagnosed with cancer and had to take a step back from one of his greatest passions. 

Jesse was well known for his skills and talents in the Abilene area, and had the opportunity to frame, build, and work on several of our local businesses. If you could envision it, he could build it. Jesse also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, coin collecting, watching old shows, comedies and the occasional trip to the casinos. 

Jesse was a man who would not hesitate to help a friend in need. He had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by many. He is preceded in death by his father, Jesus F. Vera, his half-brother, Samuel Cisneros, his mother-in-law, Rita F. Jimenez, his paternal and maternal grandparents, and several uncles and cousins. 

The family of Jesse Vera would like to thank Dr. Khalife and staff at Hendrick Cancer Center, Dr. Cedeno and staff, Internal Medicine and Hendrick Hospice and staff, for the care and compassion that was given to Jesse through these past 21 months. 

Visitation services will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 6 to 8 P.M. at Elmwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 11 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by the Burial services at Elmwood Cemetery. There will be a repast gathering immediately following the burial services at the Fellowship Hall at Sacred Heart.
