Jesus Martinez

Jesus L. Martinez, 91, of Little Elm, Texas passed away peacefully in his home on May 29, 2025.  Visitation will start at 6:00 PM and the Rosary will be at 6:30-8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Elmwood Funeral Home at 5750 US-27, Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church at 2525 Westview in Abilene, Texas. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM at Texas State Veterans Cemetary at 7457 W. Lake Road in Abilene, Texas. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine G. Martinez, and son, Jesus Martinez, Jr. 

He is survived by his children, Gregorio Martinez and his wife Sylvia of Grand Prairie Texas, Christina Jane Martinez, Richard Martinez, and Elizabeth Martinez of Little Elm, Texas. He had two grandchildren, Mathew Sean Martinez and Isabella Maria Pace. He has three great grandchildren, Layla, Ava, and Mathew Martinez, Jr.

 Jesus was born on February 20, 1934 in New Braunfels, Texas to Maria Luevano Rodriguez and Marcelino Martinez. At 17, Jesus enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Iowa during the Korean War. After completing his enlistment in the US Navy, he continued his military career in the US Air Force. In 1956, 

Jesus married the love of his life, Christine Guerrero. They began their married life in Abilene, Texas where they were stationed at Dyess Air Force Base. The Air Force took the family to Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, Guam, Virginia and Colorado. After retiring from the Air Force, they settled back in Abilene, Texas to finish raising their family. During his time in Abilene, Jesus was an active member of St. Vincent Pallotti Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Eucharistic Ministry, the Hospital Ministry, WHY Catholic (Bible Study), the Bereavement and Hospitality Committee and the Wake Services. Jesus was a longtime active member of the USS Iowa Veterans Association. After his wife passed, Jesus moved to Little Elm, Texas where he spent his remaining years with his family.
