Janis Bailey

November 2, 1946 — May 2, 2026

Janis Sue Bailey, 79, passed peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on May 2, 2026, where she was joyfully reunited with both her beloved son, Shawn Bailey, and her mother, who was her best friend. Her life was one of strength, devotion, and enduring love for her family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be announced at a later date.

Janis was born on November 2, 1946, in Littlefield, Tx, to Elmer and Berniece Koller. She grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and determination that would guide her throughout her life. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of North Texas for a short time before returning to Lubbock.

Janis spent much of her career as a keypunch supervisor for Furr's Supermarkets in Lubbock, Tx, where she was known for her diligence, leadership, and unwavering commitment to providing for her family. Everything she did was rooted in love for those closest to her.

She was a woman of many gifts, including a beautiful singing voice that brought joy to those fortunate enough to hear it. Janis especially cherished the times she spent singing alongside her lifelong friends, Sue and Judy-moments filled with laughter, harmony, and treasured memories. Her years singing with the Sweet Adelines remained some of her favorite memories. In her quieter moments, she found happiness in reading, creating ceramics, and spending loads of time with her pets. Her love for animals was amazing to behold! There were many a stray cat that never had an empty belly. She loved sports and never missed watching her favorite sports teams: the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Cowboys. If you ever encountered her and disagreed with her about her favorite teams, you know she wasn't afraid to talk some smack! Guns Up! Horns Down!

Her faith was a guiding light in her life. Janis was a devoted member of South Pointe Church, where she found community, comfort, and spiritual strength. She loved her SPC Small Group-they meant the world to her. She especially enjoyed traveling with her "sister" Kathy Miller and her husband Denny.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Berniece Koller; her brother, Jerry Koller; niece Brenda Koller Leyba; and son, Shawn Bailey.

Janis is survived by her son, Trace M. Bailey; her grandson, Koller Lackey, his mom Laurie, and her parents, Bill and Donna Lackey; her daughter-in-law, Altah Bailey and her beautiful girls Allie & Olivia Morrison.

Her honorary pallbearers will be Koller Lackey, Jeff Abernathy, Bill Whitaker, Denny Miller, Brad Crawford, Mike Diaz, Thomas Curry, and every present and past player of the Texas Rangers. Patrick Mahomes is also an honorary pallbearer even if he doesn't know it.

Janis will be remembered for her kind heart, a gentle spirit that was also mixed with plenty of spunk, and an unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy of love, faith, and perseverance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to any animal organization of your choice and/or Meals on Wheels. A special thanks to Meals on Wheels and all the delivery folks that made such a great difference in her life!
