James Leroy McFerrin, Jr.(Kimo) went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 20, 2025, in Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
James was born on February 14, 1954, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to James McFerrin Sr. and Priscilla Samonte. He was a graduate of Cooper High School and spent his working years as a skilled mechanic, known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family. James truly could fix anything, a talent that made him a dependable friend and a trusted problem-solver.
In his free time, James loved fishing, hunting, shooting pool, golf, and swimming. He took great pride in teaching his children practical life skills, especially showing them how to change tires and oil. He was a great father who believed in teaching by example.
James was known for his direct nature and his quick wit. He had a sharp sense of humor and was a master of playful banter, but behind that was a man with the biggest heart. He forgave freely, loved deeply, and was generous with grace. Most of all, James loved Jesus and lived his life as a true man of God, sharing forgiveness and faith with everyone he met.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James McFerrin Sr., and Priscilla Samonte.
James is survived by his children, Britany Ghanayem and husband Majd, Victoria Reynosa and husband Michael, Camille Salazar and husband Eric, and Jessie Burgess; his grandchildren, Karis Bruce (Nelson), Ashley Medina (Sean), Aubrianna Salazar, Kayla Reynolds (Mason), Alyssa Rangel, Eric Salazar Jr., Mikey Reynosa, John Rangel II, Braelyn Holder, Mikko Majd Ghanayem; great grandchildren, Presley Bruce, and Kayson Bruce; his siblings, Bobby McFerrin and wife Karen, Earl McFerrin and wife Lisa, Tammie Nickell and husband Richard, Jeannie Lou Ivy (Penny), Cheri Seabourn and husband Randy, Melissa McFerrin, Fredrick Markee and wife Charmaine , Katherine Robinson Spencer and husband Noa, and Patricia Ramos; his best friend, Ray Carrion; and his sweet fur babies, Jesse, Tinker, and Elvis.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
