James Hamilton

November 5, 1939 — December 29, 2025

James Price Hamilton, affectionately known as Jim or simply "J," passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 86.

James was born to Robert V. Hamilton and Elis Davis Hamilton, who preceded him in death. He spent his life grounded in faith, creativity, service, and devotion to his family, calling Abilene, Texas home for many years.

James was a man of deep faith who believed in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, who died and was resurrected for our sins. In his early years, James answered a call to ministry and served as a preacher in several churches throughout Texas, faithfully sharing God's Word and encouraging those he served.

His heart for service extended far beyond his local community. James spent approximately 12 years overseas teaching English as a Second Language, using education as a way to connect with people across cultures, build relationships, and live out his faith in practical, meaningful ways.

Creativity was a defining part of James's life. He had a love for the performing arts and was deeply passionate about photography, which he pursued both professionally and as a lifelong hobby. He was a gifted artist, excelling in sketching, painting, and visual arts, and was known for his ability to master nearly anything he put his mind to. In later years, James developed a deep love for writing, authoring two books and ghostwriting several others, leaving behind a lasting literary legacy.

James was known for his warm, humorous personality, often finding something funny in many situations. His gentle wit, joyful spirit, and ability to bring lightness even in difficult moments brought comfort and laughter to those around him.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Dhipali Hamilton; his children, Melanie Nichols and Steve of Talihina, Oklahoma; Robert Thomas Hamilton and Jennifer of Mineral Wells, Texas; and Monica Lambert and James of Cannon Falls, Minnesota. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren-Michael Burns, Eric Burns, Kyle Hamilton, Carly Essman, DJ Brown, Clay Brown, Jonah Hamilton, Jake Hamilton, Susy Hamilton, Emory Lambert, and Maddie Lambert-and a cherished great-grandfather to 7 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Judith "Judy" Hamilton Walton, and her husband Bill, along with a niece, nephew, and extended family.

James's life was a testimony of faith, creativity, service, and joy. His hope rested firmly in Christ, as expressed in John 11:25:

"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.'"

A Celebration of Life service will be planned, with details to be announced at a later date.
