James Cox

March 6, 1970 — May 8, 2025

James Cox, a beloved pillar of the Abilene community, was born on March 6, 1970, and passed unexpectedly on March 8, 2005, at the age of 55.

His life was a testament to compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to those around him. As the esteemed Grand Master of Abilene, James profoundly impacted the lives of countless individuals, providing guidance, support, and a safe haven for those who sought refuge from the storms of life.

James was not only a mentor but also a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Gavie Cox, and his cherished children: Jay and his wife Alexis, Logan, Joe Brian, Emily, Michael, and stepson Kingston Perry. He was a proud grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Sage Cox, who brought immense joy to his life. Ozzie his dog was his best friend that always welcomed him home. He also leaves behind his beloved siblings: Shirley Lane, Marlene Shoemake, Tina Eaton, Janice Rose, and Billy Gibbs (Chris).

Preceding him in death were his parents, James Alvin Cox and Louise Cox, as well as his sister, Vanita Foster, niece, Christy Bleeker and nephew, Tommye Herring. While he may no longer walk among us, James's spirit lives on through the many students he taught and the lives he touched. His teachings and the values he instilled will continue to resonate through the schools he nurtured and the hearts of those he inspired.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his dedicated staff and instructors, whose unwavering support and commitment to James's vision have helped carry on his legacy. A memorial service to honor James's remarkable life and enduring legacy will be held on Sunday, June 1, at 2 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in James's memory, ensuring that his impact continues to flourish.

As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his lessons will echo through time, and his love will forever be a guiding light in our lives. As James often said, "What comes from the heart, touches the heart." Rest peacefully with the angels, dear James; your legacy will live on in all of us!
