Hortensia Gonzalez

Hortensia Ysa Gonzalez, 82, passed away Monday, November 10, 2025, in Abilene, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 14, 2025, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas.

Hortensia was born on July 27, 1943, in Beeville, Texas, to Francisco and Luisa Ysa. She moved to Abilene more than 50 years ago, where she made her home and raised her family. A devoted single mother, Hortensia worked tirelessly to ensure her children always had what they needed, instilling in them strong values and a steadfast work ethic.

She worked for several nursing homes in the Abilene area for many years before finding her final position at Andrews Furniture. Known for her kind and giving spirit, Hortensia was always willing to help others and was a blessing to all who knew her.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Hortensia loved shopping trips to Dillard's, where the employees became her friends, and she found joy in fellowship with others. She loved the Lord deeply and attended many Pentecostal churches throughout her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Luisa Ysa; her daughter, Joann Mireles; and six siblings.

Hortensia is survived by her husband, Celso Gonzalez; her children, Josie Soto, Rachel Hill and husband Joby, Juanita Bentiez, Mike Gonzales Jr. and wife Maggie, Mario Gonzales and wife Blanca, and Manny Gonzales and wife Theresa; 21 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; two siblings, Gloria Chavez, and Cynthia Beaver.

Hortensia will be remembered for her strength, faith, and the love she shared with her family and friends.
