Fleda Lambert

June 25, 1932 — March 14, 2024

Fleda Lambert was born Fleda Dell Gregory in 1932 in Throckmorton County, Texas, to Bert and Lucille Gregory. She spent her childhood on the family farm, tending to the animals and developing her lifelong love of reading.

She left to attend North Texas State University in Denton. There, Fleda met the love of her life, Kenneth Lambert. They were married in 1950, and moved to El Paso, Texas, where Kenneth was stationed at Fort Bliss. After starting their new lives together, their son Ron was born in 1952. Three years later, daughter Karan completed their family.

The Lamberts moved to North Texas and settled in Sherman, where the children began school, and where Fleda graduated from Austin College. Over the next few years, the Lamberts moved briefly to Abilene, and then to the Dallas area. While her husband worked in higher education, Fleda became a high school homemaking teacher. She then retired and started a business as an interior designer. She and Kenneth moved back to Abilene in 1992 after Kenneth’s retirement. The couple joined the First Baptist Church, where they became involved and made many friends. Fleda, who had a lifelong love of home design, also started an interior design business in Abilene. One of the highlights of her life was helping to renovate the sanctuary of the church. Kenneth passed away in 2005.

Fleda was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind son Ron and wife Cara of Bozeman, Montana, and daughter Karan Breeden and husband Jerry Bodine, of Abilene. Her older granddaughter, Julie DeHoyos is a music teacher in the Bridgeport, Texas, public schools, and her husband, Alex, is a music minister. Her younger granddaughter, Claire, is a student at Montana State University. Julie and Claire have been the delights of Fleda’s life, along with her great-granddaughters, Katharine and Caroline.

Fleda will always be remembered for her loving nature, her wisdom, warmth and generosity, and her passions for creating and enjoying beautiful environments.
