Esperanza Mendoza

April 20, 1940 — April 2, 2024

Esperanza (Hope) Mendoza, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 surrounded by her family.

Esperanza was born in San Angelo, Tx. to Secundino and Josefa Lopez on April 20, 1940. In her childhood, she traveled the country as a migrant worker helping to support her family. They eventually settled in Munday, Tx where she spent her youth.

On July 27, 1969 she married Bernabe Mendoza Sr. from Abilene, Tx. They enjoyed a life together for 49 years, until the Lord called him home in 2019. She was a faithful, loving wife, who led her husband to serve the Lord.

Esperanza was a woman of deep faith. Her devotion to her Christian beliefs were unwavering, and provided her with strength and guidance throughout her life. She was the longest active member of True Light Global Ministries, serving for 27 years.

Esperanza worked many years helping to provide for her family at Hendrick Medical Center. Her family held a special place in her heart, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to their happiness and well-being. Esperanza loved to cook for family gatherings on Sundays, sit on her front porch rocking chair, and cheer on her great-grandchildren in softball. She will forever be remembered for her infectious smile, kind heart, and being a granny to all.

She is preceded in her death by her devoted husband; Bernabe Mendoza Sr.; siblings; Juan Lopez of Abilene, Samuel Lopez of Munday, Carmen Lopez of Munday, and Consuelo Lopez Gonzalez of Abilene.

Those left behind to cherish memories include her children; Bernabe Mendoza (Diana), and Elizabeth Gutierrez (Robert Rivera) of Abilene and Sandra Mendoza (Dee) of Savannah, Ga.; two sisters, Celia Lopez of Munday and Carolyn Lopez Soto (Joe) of Amarillo; three brothers, Modesto Lopez (Lucila) of Fort Worth, Felipe Lopez (Elva) of Abilene, and Pete Lopez (Rosa) of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Corina Saldana (Rene), Johnny Gutierrez Jr. (Jennifer), Jessica Gutierrez (Amanda), Desiree Mendoza, Lucy Aguirre (Marco) and Justin Mendoza (Shelby); nine great-grandchildren, Makayla, Avah, Mariah, Alicia, Ashlyn, Ezekiel, Audrina, Emery, and Krystalia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Honored to be pallbearers include; Johnny Gutierrez Jr., Jessica Gutierrez, Justin Mendoza, Robert Rivera, Rene Saldana, Marco Aguirre and honorary pallbearer, Ezekiel Devora.

The family will be receiving friends and relatives for a memorial service from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 8th at Elmwood Funeral Home 5750 Highway 277. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at True Light Global Ministries 1164 Minter Lane, with Pastor Rolando Figueiras officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in the Garden of Memories.
