Edwinia Lynn Foster, a devoted mother, grandmother, and beloved teacher, passed away on September 23, 2023. She was 64 years old. A visitation will be 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, September 29, 2023 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Edwinia was born on May 23, 1959, in Abilene, Texas, to her loving parents Barney and Edna Haynes. She spent her childhood in the heart of Abilene, where she would grow into a remarkable individual. After graduating from Cooper High School, Edwinia pursued her passion for education while raising and supporting her children, earning a Bachelor of Behavioral Science from Hardin Simmons. Her dedication to her studies was truly commendable, as she was also employed full-time at the state school while pursuing her degree.
Edwinia's faith was a central part of her life, as she was an active member of Southern Hills Baptist Church, where she generously devoted her time to teaching Sunday school. She continuously prayed for her family and loved ones and was dedicated to studying God's Word. Known for her strong work ethic, Edwinia was a hardworking individual who found solace in her hobbies of gardening and cross-stitching. Her green thumb and creative talents brought joy to her life and those around her.
As a dedicated educator, Edwinia Foster made a profound impact on countless young lives during her career. She taught as a 1st and 2nd-grade teacher at Pleasanton Primary and Esparza Elementary in San Antonio, where her passion for teaching was obvious. Her students were not just pupils; they were her extended family, and she nurtured their growth with love and care. However, above all else, Edwinia cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were the true treasures of her life, and she loved each one dearly.
She is preceded in death by her father, Barney Haynes; and her husband, Dillon Foster.
Edwinia is survived by her daughter, Maranda Osuna and husband James; her son, Jason Malone; her mother, Edna Hogsett; her grandchildren, Katherine Osuna, Wyatt Malone, James Eli Osuna, and Allison Malone; her brother, Steve Haynes and wife Nancy; her nephews, Kevin Haynes, and Randy Haynes; her niece, Julie Webb; and numerous other family members, friends, and students.
Edwinia Lynn Foster's memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and the generations of students whose lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate to know her.
