Edward Batko

Edward Louis Batko, 83, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008, at Meadow Creek Nursing Center in San Angelo. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Ed was born on July 28, 1924 in Allison, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Antoinette Batko. He attended school in Allison and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1944. He served as a navigator in WWII and was a POW in Germany for 10 months. He retired from the Air Force as Lt Col. He married the love of his life, Doris Jean on September 14, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. While in the service they lived in Chicago, Honolulu, Hawaii, Altus, Oklahoma, and Abilene. Abilene became their home for 46 years where Ed worked 33 years selling life insurance for United Service Life, earning numerous awards for his excellent salesmanship. He enjoyed talking to military families. He and Doris moved to San Angelo in November of 2002.

Ed was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and while in Abilene was a member of Sacred Heart and Holy Family, where he served in the Knights of Columbus. Ed was a very outgoing person. He and Doris loved to go dancing. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Doris; four sons, Dan Batko and his wife Diane of San Angelo, Steve Batko and his wife Marie of Abilene, Ed Batko Jr and his wife Kathy of Arlington, and John Batko of Abilene; one daughter, DAnne Trupkin and husband Steve of Wantagh, New York; ten grandchildren, Kendall Williams and her husband Josh, Justin Batko, Jason and Adam Trupkin, Emily Clement and her husband Jeff, Ross Batko, Trey Ortiz, Karrah, Elijah and Samuel Batko; and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Stephanie Korvas and Emily Hallack.

His parents, Joseph and Antoinette Batko and one brother, Henry Batko preceded him in death.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Vista Care for all their help and support. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association or Vista Care Hospice, 402 N. Bryant, San Angelo, Texas 76903.
