Dorthy Hazel Derden, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away on August 30, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born on December 28, 1933, to Morris and Egelee Patterson and grew up in the close-knit community of Big Spring, Texas. On May 17, 1952, she married the love of her life, Spruce Derden, and together they embarked on a journey of love and commitment that spanned an incredible 64 years.
Dorthy's life was marked by accomplishments and passions that brought joy to those who knew her. She distinguished herself as the salutatorian of the 1951 graduating class at Big Spring High School, setting the stage for a lifetime of achievement. Her love for bowling was renowned, and she bowled her way into the hearts of many friends throughout the years. Dorthy also dedicated over two decades as an Avon Lady, bringing beauty and kindness to her community.
Roses held a special place in Dorthy's heart, and her garden bloomed with their vibrant colors. She found solace and happiness in tending to these delicate flowers, much like the love and care she shared with the animals that graced her life.
Dorthy was a testament to hard work and dedication. For over 30 years, she served as the Real Estate Secretary for Jimmy Partin Realtors, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Her dedication to her profession was unwavering, a reflection of her commitment to excellence in all she did.
A faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church, Dorthy's faith and her devotion to her family and friends knew no bounds. She was a loving mother and a cherished friend, always ready to lend a listening ear or a helping hand.
Dorthy leaves behind a legacy of love and family. She is survived by her three devoted children: Spruce Derden Jr. and his wife LaVeda of Clinton, MS; David Derden and his wife Kandy of Sedalia, MO; and Wanda Cano and her husband Rudy of New Braunfels, TX. Her memory will also be cherished by her six adoring grandchildren: Doug Jones, Spruce Derden III, Leighann LeMaster, Lindsey Roland, Ariel Young, and Cori Cano, as well as her eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Spruce Sr., Dorthy was preceded in death by her daughter, Hazel Young, and her parents, Morris and Egelee Patterson.
Pallbearers for the service will be, Spruce Derden Jr, David Derden, Rudy Cano, Spruce Derden III, Jimmy Partin III, Matt Love.
Dorthy Hazel Derden will forever be remembered for her loving heart, her unwavering dedication to family, and her zest for life. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her and will be deeply missed by all.
