Obituary

Dorothy Ann Ake, passed away on Saturday Aug 22, 2026, in Abilene, Texas. She was born on April 11, 1940, in Carbon, Texas to her parents Luis Noel and Vercie Simmons.

From her earliest days, Dorothy's talent and love for the piano sang through every room she entered. Her faith and music intertwined, and for 25 years she graced Buffalo Gap Baptist Church with her gentle touch and unwavering dedication as their pianist. Later, at Elmcrest Baptist Church, her music continued to uplift congregations, offering solace and joy through the years. Her skill brought comfort and joy to all who worshiped alongside her, echoing her deep faith and warm heart. Dorothy also found joy in sharing her musical talent with local veterans, playing at the VFW in Tye, Texas. Her performances-built community bonds, offered solace, and enlivened many gatherings with her music.

A world traveler with an adventurous soul, Dorothy's love for travel was nourished by meaningful mission trips to Japan and China. She loved traveling with friends and family, treasuring every shared adventure.

She adored her three chihuahuas and her loyal cat Sam, sharing an unspoken tenderness with each animal companion that brought light to her days.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Wagoner; her grandchildren, Jamie Osborne and husband Derrill, Jennifer and husband Jason McIver, Bry Stephens; her great grandchildren, Summer Sterling, Zackry Faulkner, Brennan Faulkner, Drake McIver, Cameron McIver, Briley McIver; her 2 great-great grandchildren, August Nicole Hoover, Sirius Turner; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her baby daughter, Diana Lynn Wagoner; her husband, Donnie Ray Wagoner; her son, Larry Don Wagoner; her husband, James Ake; her parents, Luis Noel Simmons and Vercie Simmons; her sisters, Veda Williams, Faye Mauldin, Carol Burns; her brothers, Alton Maples, CJ Maples, Jimmy Maples.

A visitation will be held on Thursday August 27, 2026, from 6:00PM - 8:00PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be Friday August 28, 2026, at 10:00AM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
