Donna Jean Howard Field, 71, entered eternal rest in the arms of Jesus and her beloved son, Bryan, on August 30, 2025, in Abilene, Texas. Though words cannot fully express the extent of our sorrow, we feel profound joy at the thought of her experiencing peace and comfort in her eternal glory.
Donna was born on September 10, 1953, in Plainview, Texas, to Edward Lavoice and Patricia Kirchoff Howard. She grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School before attending South Plains College, where she met her soulmate and love of her life, Samuel Louis Field. They were married on March 24, 1973, and went on to share more than 52 beautiful years together. Donna was instrumental in helping Sam through college, graduate school, and his career. Throughout their marriage, they were true partners in every sense. The love that Donna and Sam shared together was the cornerstone of a life built on faith, family, and unshakeable devotion.
Donna often said her greatest accomplishment and joy in life was being the best wife, mother, and grandmother she could possibly be. She poured her heart and soul into loving and serving her family. Outside the home, Donna was actively involved in her community, serving as a 4-H volunteer and leader, as well as a substitute teacher at Morton ISD, for many years. Through her encouragement, generosity, and steadfast belief in others, she helped many young people earn scholarships and pursue their dreams, leaving an impact that will be remembered for generations. When she made time for herself, Donna was still serving others with her remarkable talent as a “professional quilter”. A piece of her heart went into every quilt she made for family, friends, and countless others, as evidenced by the artistry and care she poured into every stitch.
A devoted member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ, Donna’s faith was evident in the way she loved and served others. She will be remembered most for her deep devotion to her family. She saw being a wife, mother, and grandmother as her life’s calling, and her legacy of love and faith will live on through those she leaves behind.
She is preceded in death by her son, Bryan Jeffrey Field; her parents, Edward Lavoice and Patricia Kirchoff Howard; and her in-laws, James Robert and Louena Click Field.
Donna is survived by her husband, Samuel Louis Field of Abilene; her son, James Edward “Jim Ed” Field and daughter (in love), Amanda Kaye Field, of Abilene, Texas; Grandchildren Conner Preston Field, Price Turner Payne, Jackson Cade Field, Calee Jo Satterwhite (Drew), Harrison Carter Field, Bryan’s sons, Samuel Robert Field and William Allen Field, and their mother, Lauren Hymans Field, of Georgetown, Texas; Great grandchildren Carter Ray Satterwhite and Ainsley Jo Satterwhite; her sister, Debra Ann Howard; her sister-in-law, Sandy Awbrey (Randy); her sister (in love), Janis Reinken-Hastey; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
