D.H. Pope, lovingly known as "Pop" to his family and friends, entered his heavenly home on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the age of 86.

A graveside service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home.

D.H. was born on April 28, 1940, to Doak Hinds Pope and Sally Caton Pope. He was raised in Mangum, Oklahoma, where he spent much of his childhood making cherished memories at his grandparents' home. From an early age, D.H. was known for his strong work ethic, a quality that remained with him throughout his life.

After graduating from high school, D.H. attended Oklahoma State University, where he pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering. On July 5, 1963, he married the love of his life, Caroline Jones Pope. Together they built a marriage filled with love, hard work, and adventure that spanned more than six decades.

The young couple began their married life in Oklahoma City before relocating to Ardmore, Oklahoma, as D.H. embarked on a new career path. His work led the family to Bonham, Texas, then Memphis, Texas, before he entered into business with Hurshel and Bill Tyler, which brought them to Paducah, Texas. D.H. spent the majority of his career building cable television systems throughout many small towns across Texas, helping bring new technology and connectivity to countless communities.

Eventually, D.H. and Caroline made Abilene, Texas, their home, where he continued working in the cable industry until his retirement. Never one to sit still, D.H. began a second career by purchasing the local Putt-Putt Golf business. Together, he and Caroline expanded it with batting cages and a larger facility, creating a place where countless families made lasting memories. Later, D.H. enjoyed building homes in Abilene before retiring for good thirteen years ago.

Above all, D.H. loved the Lord and placed his faith in Jesus Christ. His quiet faith was evident in the way he lived his life-with integrity, humility, and a servant's heart. One of his greatest joys was listening to Southern Gospel music, and the songs of faith and hope brought him comfort throughout his life. His family finds peace knowing that he is now in the presence of his Savior.

More than anything, D.H. treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose steady presence, wisdom, and unconditional love will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Caroline Pope; his daughters, Daleca Moore and her husband, Hatton, and Kam Zinsser and her husband, Jeff; his sister, Carolyn Burcham; his grandchildren, Carissa Parker (Drew), Alyssa Mattson (Jeremy), David Mattson (Kylie), Hannah Moore, Randy Beaird (Alyssa), Cameron Beaird, Joshua Zinsser (Addy); and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doak Hinds Pope and Sally Caton Pope.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Elmwood Funeral Home and the congregation of New Hope Church for their compassion, care, and support during this difficult time.

Though D.H. has left this earthly life, the legacy of his hard work, unwavering faith, quiet strength, and deep love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. While he will be greatly missed, we rejoice in the promise that because of his faith in Jesus Christ, this is not goodbye but "until we meet again."
