David Eugene Smith

David Eugene Smith was born in Cameron, Texas, to Wilmer and Charlene (Reid) Smith on September 9, 1956. He passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the age of 69.

David grew up and was surrounded by a large family with nine siblings and lots of aunts and uncles.

He was a graduate of Milano High School in 1976. He worked many years at Bandag and finished his working life retiring with the City of Abilene. He was an avid golfer and never missed a Dallas Cowboys game. He enjoyed attending any and all of his grandchildren's school and sports activities no matter how far of a drive. He was one of their biggest supporters and fans.

He was a loving, Dad, granddad, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

He has survived by daughters DeAnna and husband JW Poage of Abilene, Texas, Danielle and husband Tristin Dozier of Iowa Park, Texas, grandchildren Dillon and Aiden Poage of Abilene, Texas, Riley and Remi Dozier of Iowa Park, Texas, along with brother Terry Smith, sisters Wilma Smith, Teresa Smith, Linda Contreras, and Janette Doyle, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by parents, brothers Roger Smith, Cecil Smith, Rodney Smith, and sister Janelle Smith.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Elmwood Memorial.
