Cynthia Wright

November 2, 1941 — May 23, 2025

Cynthia Louise Wright, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 83 years old.

Born on November 2, 1941, in Balboa District, Panama Canal Zone to Fred Van Siclen and Lillian Hambleton, Cynthia spent her early years abroad before moving to Long Island, New York, at the age of 12. She graduated from Uniondale High School and later relocated to Texas in 1965, where she built a beautiful life rooted in love, family, and community.

On December 20, 1976, Cynthia married Edgar Wright. Together, they shared many wonderful years. A dedicated and hardworking woman, Cynthia owned and operated a restaurant for many years before joining the Abilene Independent School District, where she worked until her retirement.

Cynthia had a zest for life and found joy in the simple pleasures—antique shopping, making memories at the casino with her friends, and, most importantly, spending cherished time with her daughters and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters: Deborah Chism, Sandy Hollowell and husband Robert, Carol Chastain and husband John, and Kathy Hampton and husband Lance. Cynthia’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Lora Huerta (Chris), Allison Bellar (Chelsie), Jenifer Bellar, Jaron Bellar, Abigail Wood (Gaige), Aaron Chastain (Claire), Ryan Hampton (Ashleigh), Trey Hampton, and Noah Hampton, and many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Fred and Lilian Van Siclen; her husband, Edgar Wright; her grandchildren Christi Hollowell and Jay Bellar, and two sisters Karen and Cheryl.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate doctors at Baylor Scott & White and the dedicated team at Alpha Omega Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Cynthia during her final weeks. Their kindness, professionalism, and support brought great comfort to both Cynthia and her loved ones during a profoundly difficult time. The family is deeply grateful and could not have made it through without the love and care shown by these remarkable caregivers.

In accordance with Cynthia’s wishes, the family requests that plants be given in lieu of flowers, honoring her enduring love for nature and life.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, warmth, and unwavering love.
