Carolyn Janet Polk (née King), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, was born on August 22, 1944, in Abilene, Texas, to Loyd and Helen King. She grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School, where she began forming the strong family values and work ethic that would guide her throughout her life.
Carolyn dedicated 26 years of service to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, from which she retired after a long and faithful career. Outside of work, her greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her kitchen was often the heart of gatherings. Carolyn especially enjoyed cooking and baking, delighting everyone she loved with her homemade treats.
She also had a love for shopping and was always proud of finding a good bargain. When asked about her favorite things, she would happily name a cigarette, a glass of sweet red wine, a Coca-Cola, or a hot cup of coffee-simple pleasures that brought her comfort and contentment.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Helen King; her sister, Linda Livingston; her brother-in-law, Dennis Paulk; and her sons-in-law, Michael Patterson and James Borgerding.
She is survived by her sisters, Sharon King and Gay Paulk; her daughters, Janet Borgerding and Kelly Patterson; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish her memory and the love she shared so freely.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
