Obituary

Carol Ann Myers, 77, peacefully passed away on July 26, 2026, at Hendrick Hospice Care, after battling a lengthy illness.

Carol was born September 21, 1948, in Abilene to Leo J. and Kathryn E. (Schwartz) Rynders. She was a graduate of Cooper High School and lived most of her life in Abilene. She was a member of the Cooper band and enjoyed music all her life. Immediately following high school, she worked at Timex before getting married. She later worked at Eckerd/CVS for over 25 years as a Pharmacy Technician until her retirement.

While her kids were young, she could be found at all their sporting events and participating as a room mother at school functions. This hobby carried over when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along. She especially enjoyed eating donuts with her great-granddaughter, Andi. She loved spending time with her family and always carried out family traditions during the holidays, repeating recipes handed down from her mother and other family members.

In the early 1980's, Carol was a founding member of the Big Country Refunders Club with her sister-in-law, Gayle. She also loved to play games, especially card games, and wasn't known for letting her children or grandchildren win out of kindness. This is probably the reason her family is so competitive to this day. Carol had a sweet tooth and could be found enjoying a Dr. Pepper and anything chocolate most evenings. She was a passionate dog lover and enjoyed their company for over 60 years, owning several during her lifetime.

She was a member of Elmwood West Methodist Church for over 40 years and formed many long-lasting friendships. She enjoyed church activities and in her younger years helped in the church food booth at the West Texas Fair for several years.

Carol is survived by her son Stephen Myers and wife Jenny of Abilene, daughter Debra Reese and husband Jamie of Abilene; grand-children Amber Walls and husband Josh of Lewisville, Kali Wieland and husband Chris of Boerne, Erika Brady and husband Parker of McKinney, Hanna Kimble and husband Ben of Abilene, Jaden Myers and wife Madi of Bulverde; great-grandchildren Andi Walls, Cameron Walls and Kaylee Kimble.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Kay Rynders; brothers Ray Rynders and Ron Rynders.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on July 31, 2026, at Elmwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Abilene All Kind Animal Initiative.
