Brenda Black

December 14, 1945 — January 7, 2021

In Loving Memory Brenda Lee Black December 14, 1945 – January 7, 2021 With heavy hearts we regret to announce the passing of our beloved Brenda Black.

Brenda Black, 75, passed away in Abilene, Texas on January 7, 2021 after a long and well fought battle with Covid-19. Brenda was born in Charlotte N.C. on December 14, 1945. Brenda is survived by her husband George Black, her daughters Sherry Ferrante and Marnie Bailey, and her son in law Frank Ferrante. Brenda was preceded in death by her son William Johnson and son in law Alan Bailey. Brenda had 5 grandchildren: Billy Johnson, Taylor Bailey, Nic Bailey, Tessa Ferrante, and Keli Bailey. She had one great grandchild: Makinzley Johnson. Brenda had five siblings: Bo Denzel, Jerry Lee Suggs, John Wayne Suggs, Wendy Sue Mann, and Tina Renee Mckee. Living in many different cities and countries throughout her life, she accumulated friends from all over the world. She somehow managed to keep in touch with many of these friends through the years by writing and calling. Once she discovered social media, she was able to reconnect with many friends she had lost touch with. Brenda considered many people friends, but Cindy Sexton and Laurie Velasquez were her closest friends. Cindy and Brenda shared early morning phone calls every Sunday as well as bi-weekly pedicure and manicures appointments. Laurie loved sharing a cup of tea on Brenda’s back porch and watching Hallmark movies together. Brenda was always a dog person, but turned into a cat lover later in life. Begger and Lucky, her two cats, were her constant companions around the house. Brenda is most remembered for her baking, which earned her many blue ribbons at the Abilene Fair year after year. She was famous for her Red Velvet Cake, Italian Cream Cake, Pecan Pie and Lemon Meringue Pie. She also had an insatiable desire for reading and a love for watching Jeopardy and Fox news. Most mornings you would find her and her husband George on the back porch enjoying a cup of coffee while sharing the daily paper with their two cats close by. Brenda also loved decorating her home and yard for every season and holiday. She loved collecting collectables and didn’t stop until she had them all. This carried over into her obsession with shoes; she had every color for every outfit. Brenda was a number one fan at her grandchildren’s sporting events and with George by her side they rarely missed a game or meet. Another fun fact: She knew more about cars than most men. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Hendricks Medical Center South for the care and compassion.
