Billy Ross James, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on November 14, 2025. He was born on September 18, 1934 in Paris, Texas to Emezirah "Jack" James and Nola Garner James.
Billy proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War. Following his military service, he built a long and dedicated career as a civil servant, approaching every responsibility with integrity, humility, and an unwavering sense of duty.
Billy loved God, his family, and his country. He was a lifelong conservative in the best sense of the word-principled, respectful, and guided by a deep sense of personal responsibility. He also cherished the simple joys that brought him peace, especially cheering on the horse races at Ruidoso Downs and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness to his life.
He is survived by his brother, Ray James; his children, Pam Moreland, Paula (Jim) Tallant, and Phillip (Glenda) James; and his grandchildren, Gaye Rosser, Jordan Ronalder (Nick, daughters Navy and Henley), and Brayden James. Each will forever cherish his steady presence, quiet strength, and enduring love.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life Maxine, his parents, and brothers Jerry and Charles (affectionately called "Bubba").
The family would like to thank everyone at Alpha Omega Hospice for their care and support.
A private graveside service will be held for family and close friends in honor of Billy on Friday, November 21, 2025 . In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
