Benny Eugene Wofford, 66, of Noodle, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2025. A man as real as the land he loved, Benny lived life on his own terms—leaving behind a trail of memories built on hard work, loud laughter, and deep devotion to friends and family. He had a heart big enough to turn every stranger into a friend and every moment into a lasting memory.
Born August 4, 1958, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Benny was the son of Bill Wofford and the late Janet Lee. He grew up in Sweetwater and graduated from Sweetwater High School—a true West Texas boy from the start. For over 50 years, Benny worked in the oilfields and became known far and wide as the “Oilfield Whisperer,” a man who could keep a well running just by looking at it.
He was the definition of country—scruffy beard, thick glasses, always in overalls, and never without his signature twang or a hearty “Hey man” or “Hey bud.” Benny didn’t know a stranger. If you talked to him for five minutes, you walked away as his friend with a smile on your face.
A man of many passions, Benny loved to fish—especially jug-lining—and to hunt. He proudly ran Wofford’s Guns & Ammo for a time and had a deep love for his guns, his dogs, and his motorcycle. His faithful dog Jada was his constant companion, never far from his lap whether in his recliner or riding in his truck. After she passed, Shorty stepped in to keep him company, though everyone who knew Benny knows he and Jada are back together now.
Above all else, Benny’s greatest joy came from his family—especially his grandbabies and great-grandbabies. He lit up in their presence. He married the love of his life, Galela, on October 14, 1994, and the two built a life filled with laughter, dancing, and devotion. As Galela says, “Benny was my thunder and lightning— the love of my life. I loved his smile, loved to dance with him, and loved when he made me laugh.
” To his son, little Chris, Benny was a hero: “My dad was the life of the party and the strongest man I knew. I find myself more like him every day and hope to someday be as good as he once was.
” Benny Eugene Wofford was a true original—a man whose presence filled every room and whose heart had room for everyone. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Benny is survived by his wife, Galela Wofford; his father, Bill Wofford; his children: Christopher Wofford (little Chris) and his wife Dana, and Chris Corsentino (Big Chris); his grandchildren: Rebecca Saddlemire, Hayden Wofford, Waylon Wofford, Sydney Collins, Lexi Corsentino, and Jason Corsentino; his great-grandchildren: Lincoln Saddlemire, Thomas Saddlemire, and Barrett Wofford; his brothers: Mark Wofford and Stevie Wofford; and countless extended family and friends who loved him like kin. He was preceded in death by his son, Cody Ben, and his mother, Janette Lee.
