Autry Lee Blakes
Autry Lee Blakes peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2026, with her family by her side.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 608 North 7th Street, Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church. Interment will follow on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas.
Autry was born on August 14, 1938, in Calvert, Texas, to Harrison Greene and Lizzie Mae Reed. She later moved with her family to Lubbock, Texas, where she was a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church, and also attended Community Baptist Church, serving in the choir. Lubbock was where she lovingly raised her only child and greatest pride, her son, Daryl Greene.
In 1982, Autry met the love of her life, William "Bill" Blakes, and the two made their home in El Paso, Texas, where she spent many years active in church life. Autry and her husband were devoted members of Unity Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a teacher for the Women's Bible Study Class and the Women's Missionary Ministry. When her husband later became the pastor of Antioch Christian Joy Center Baptist Church, Autry stood steadfastly by his side as a dedicated pastor's wife. During her many years there, she lovingly oversaw the choir, youth department, and women's missionary group. Together, they shared a heart for service, ministering beyond the church walls by providing food and clothing to those in need within the community. After the passing of her beloved husband, she later moved to Abilene, Texas, to be closer to her grandchildren.
In Abilene, Autry was a devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served in the Women's Ministry. A loving and dedicated grandmother, she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her quiet times, she enjoyed watching football games and her favorite television show, Family Feud.
Autry is survived by her grandchildren: Taniqua (Norman) Clay, Darrick (Andrea) Jones, Daryn Greene, Keith Brown, and Kristen (Lonny) Sparks; her twelve great-grandchildren: Ja'Korie, Noreaun, Ja'Vonne, Gavin, Kinsley, Kain, Decklyn, Jayce, Raidyn, Everly, Zayden, and Olivia; her first-cousins: James (Ilenda) Skief, Gloria Williams, Mary LaVerne Bailey, Irene Cook, Roberta (Donald) Dabbs, Mary Lee Blakes, Lillie Mae Anderson, David Reed, and Annette Mason; along with a host of cherished relatives and dear friends who became family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Blakes; her son, Daryl Greene; her parents, Harrison and Lizzie Mae Greene; her grandparents, Charles and Pearl Porch Reed; and her sister, Mae Pearl Jackson.
