Angelo "Tony" Nigro

December 4, 1942 — June 6, 2025

Angelo Vincent “Tony” Nigro, 82, passed away on June 6, 2025, in Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be 5:00 PM -7:00 PM, Monday, June 9, 2025, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Midway Cemetery in Hodges, Texas.

Tony was born on December 4, 1942, in New York City, NY, to Vincent and Josephine Nigro. He attended and graduated from a local Catholic school in New York City.

Shortly after graduation, Tony enlisted in the United States Air Force, embracing the call to serve his country. His years in the military gave him the opportunity for adventurous travel to Turkey, England, Ireland and Korea. After 20 years of active duty, he retired honorably from Dyess Air Force Base in 1980 with the rank of Tech Sargent.

Following his military service, Tony continued his hardworking legacy for nearly 20 years as an HVAC technician and installer for Quality Heating and Air Conditioning in Abilene. Known for his unmatched work ethic and dedication, he was the person everyone could count on even well after retirement age.

On May 2, 1964, Tony married the love of his life, Martha Ann Nigro. Together, they shared decades of love and partnership until her passing on November 10, 2012.

Tony was a proud Italian—stubborn in the best way, humble, and full of character. He found joy in the simple things: his beloved Corvette that came by way of Martha’s million dollar lottery win in 2008 and his ‘66 Mustang affectionately named “ol’ bessie”, which he owned since 1974. He enjoyed attending car shows, spending weekends at car races and occasional swap meets.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Josephine Nigro; his wife, Martha Nigro; and his sister, Katherine “Chicky” Nigro.

Tony is survived by his children, Patricia Dill and husband Mike, and Vince Nigro and wife Stephanie; former daughter-in-law, Christy Bechtel; his grand children, Angela Brooke Gallimore and husband Tim, Brittany Stovall and husband Hayden, Hannah Bond and husband Brett, Hailey Gaitan and husband Michael, Hayden Nigro, Trevor Day and wife McKayla, Kylie Day, and Minda Nikos and husband Jason; his great grandchildren, Tanner, Cole, Cami, Kasen, Averee, Graham, Sutton, Carsyn, Daniel, Charlie, Judah, and soon to be, Noah, and Leona; his sisters children, Valerie Nigro, and Michael Nigro of FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
