Alfred "Freddie" Martinez Jr., 79, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Abilene, Texas.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a rosary from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, Texas. Interment will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Rd., Abilene, Texas.
Freddie was born on July 10, 1946, in Hale Center, Texas, to his parents, Alfred and Martha Martinez. In 1967, he joined the U.S. Army and was deployed immediately to the Vietnam War, where he served until he was honorably discharged in 1969. Freddie and his wife, Mary, shared a beautiful journey of 18 years. They began their life together on September 27, 2007, and were later married on March 2, 2013.
He brought joy to those around him with his quick wit and playful nature. A passionate fan of Western movies, Freddie also loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and was a huge NASCAR fan. He cherished every moment spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Martinez; his children, Brian Martinez, David Martinez, Sarah Martinez, Rebecca Martinez, Sandra Islas and husband Denny, and Nancy Robles and husband Luz; his brother, Ricardo Martinez and wife Patricia; his brother, Santos Martinez and wife Josie; his sister, Hellen Villegas; his uncle, Marcus Baladez; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as Marcus Ortiz, also known as "Tony," who was considered a son to him.He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Martinez; his mother, Martha Baldera Martinez; and his sister, Carmelita Martinez.
Pallbearers will be James Martinez, Jimmy Martinez, Eddie Ray Martinez, Sammy Martinez, George Rodriguez, and Marcus "Tony" Ortiz.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Ramirez, Luz De Los Santos, and Denny Islas.
He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
