Mr. Jose Loya, 90, of Abilene passed away, peacefully, at his home on June 16, 2017. Mr. Loya’s funeral/celebration of life ceremony is scheduled for Monday, June 19 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, 1333 N. 3rd St. in Abilene. A brief graveside service will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will also hold a viewing and visitation on Sunday, June 18 at Elmwood Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Mr. Loya was born on Christmas Eve in 1926 to Enrique and Juanita Loya in Cedar Creek, Texas near Austin. He settled in Abilene around the age of 20. In Abilene he met the love of his life, Maria Juarez. They married on October 15, 1949 when Mr. Loya was 23. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage until Maria’s death in 2010.

Mr. Loya had a productive 36 year career with the City of Abilene. With very little formal education, Mr. Loya provided for his wife and two daughters in an exemplary manner. Upon his retirement in 1988, he had three areas of focus in his life – FAITH, FAMILY & FRIENDS. A deacon in his church since 1966, Mr. Loya embodied this spirit and a life of servant leadership to a degree matched by few.

He is survived by two daughters, Josie Permenter and husband Michael of Austin, Texas and Mary Ann Aguilar and husband Robert of Fort Worth, Texas. He had four granddaughters, Rita Marple and husband Jeremy, Julie Engebretson and husband Alex, Kristen Aguilar and Linda Permenter. He had seven great grandchildren, Ella Marple, Nathan Marple, Josie Engebretson, Evelyn Engebretson, Bryson Barefield, Braylon Barefield and Braiden Barefield.
He is also survived by two sisters, Cristina Dunn of Abilene (his primary caregiver for the last 7 years), and Juana Culver of Mississippi.

He had 7 brothers and one sister who preceded him in death.

My thoughts are with you and the family and how death robs us of our loved ones. Jehovah God has promised to remove death, sickness, and pain from the earth and reunite us with our loved one on a cleansed earth in the future. (Revelation 21:4; John 5:28,29; John 17:3; Psalms 83:18)
In the meantime you can be sure that God understands how you feel now! The Bible assures us:
"He is healing the brokenhearted ones, And is binding up there painful spots." Psalms 147:3
