I served in the Army.

Moises Ortiz peacefully passed away from this world on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 7:25 pm. He was loved and will be missed dearly.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 6:00 till 8:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene. His Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 12:30 PM at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 South Pioneer Dr., Abilene. Military burial will follow at the Veteran’s Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road, Abilene.

Moises was born on February 23, 1938 in Abilene, Texas to Jose and Cruz Ortiz.

Moises lived in Abilene all of his life. He attended school in Abilene. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1958. He was very proud of having served his country. Each morning, he would raise his American flag in his front yard for all to see.

Moises retired from WTU/AEP after 27 years where he worked as an electrical engineer. After retirement, he devoted his time to his family and working out in his yard.

Moises is survived by his bride of 56 years, Gloria Sigala Ortiz, his daughter, Janell Pena and husband, Jaime, his son, Robert Ortiz and wife, Melissa, his four grandchildren, Alexandria Ortiz and Anthony Ortiz of Fort Worth, and Sarah Pena and Nicolas Pena of Abilene. He is also survived by six sisters, Josie Rendon of Houston, Vickie Casares of Spring Valley, CA, Minnie Martinez ( Joe) of Houston, Cruz Jimenez, Corina Gonzales (Ruben), and Naomi Martinez (Jimmy) all of Abilene and two brothers, Eliseo Ortiz (Bessie) of Mesquite, TX and Charles Ortiz (Delores) of South Gate, CA. He also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Those that preceded him in death are his parents, Jose and Cruz Ortiz, two sisters, Lupe Gonzales, and Viviana Tamez, five brothers, Dan P. Ortiz, Louis P. Ortiz, Israel Ortiz, Joe A. Ortiz, and Arcadio Ortiz.

Moises was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa. He will live forever in our hearts. We love you, Dad!
