Deverise “Dev” Ohre of Abilene went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 29, 2017. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. The funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Wylie Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road with Jeff Hatcher officiating. Private entombment to follow funeral service at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Dev was born in Portales, New Mexico to Bud Crouch and Mohee Barnes on February 8, 1950. She married Eddie Ohre on December 31, 1987 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She received a BSN from McMurry University and then worked in home health, was a charge nurse at Abilene Regional, a Hospice nurse, and, in the last ten years before retiring, was the director of Hospice of the Big Country. After retiring, Dev remained on the Board of Hospice for Texas and New Mexico. Dev’s passion for her job was evident in the time, energy, and love she poured into her coworkers and patients.
Dev sang on the praise team, taught Sunday School, played the piano, was an accomplished seamstress, and decorator. Dev loved to travel and was always ready for a new adventure. After retirement, she discovered a love and natural talent for painting that blessed many people. Dev was known for her generous spirit and her kindness by all who knew her. She devoted care and compassion to her family, friends, and to her community, joyfully exemplifying the love of Christ.
Dev is survived by her husband, Eddie Ohre; her children, Melissa (Steve) Doan, Tanya (Brian) Zeigler, Darrel Brown, Amanda (Patrick) Licon; her stepson, David Ohre; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors at Hendrick Hospital, Abilene Regional, and Hospice of the Big Country for their wonderful care during Dev’s final days. Per Dev’s request, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Big Country.

I only learned today of Deverise's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss. I was so blessed to spend time with her as her nurse at HMC. We bonded and discussed several times that we wished we had known each other sooner . She was a beautiful and kind lady. My prayers will be with you all, during the days ahead. Heaven definitely received a new Angel!

I am so sorry to hear of Dev's passing. My prayers go out to each family member during this time of loss. She was an incredible and talented individual with an indomitable spirit. Our paths first crossed in 1963 at Reagan Junior High in Sweetwater, Texas. It was an intense time of change in our country - integration of schools. I remember my first day...that first day marked the beginning of a friendship of a blond haired fair skinned girl and a chocolate brown skinned brown eyed girl. Our paths crossed again when she was a nurse at Abilene Regional Medical Center...we simply picked up where we left off after our high school days. The impact that Dev had on my life cannot truly be measured. I am forever grateful to have had her in my life when so much of my outlook on life was formed. Dev, my precious friend, you touched the live of so many and because of your love, compassion, humor, and you just being you, we were all made better. Rest in peace, rest in peace.

Love to you all. Having never met Mimi she inspired me nonetheless. It was evident that her life was filled with passion and love and vibrance. All of which lives on in her dearest family. Hugs and prayers from Ohio. Love, Julia

I was inspired by Deverise to become a nurse. She has been a long time friend since childhood. She will always be special to me and have a place in my heart.
Life is all about learning, making a difference, sharing special occasions, and making memories. It unfortunately means we will experience the pain of losing a loved one along the way as well. Our hearts hurt by the loss of a great friend,Deverise Ohre, but rest assured she is in a glorious place now.
She was a woman who was very passionate about everything she did. She seen things many others have not, and has left a lasting legacy of the differences she made in other peoples lives.
Recently when she posted two of her recent paintings, I thought how beautiful. Her vision and attention to detail came to life on the canvas.
As we all go through the mourning process, take time between tears to laugh and share stories and memories as we celebrate her life. Rest in peace, Deverise Ohre, God has called another beautiful angel home.
