Billie Ray Altman, 75, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2007 at a local hospital. BRBRVisitation for family and friends will be 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 13, 2007 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Graveside service with full military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park with Rev. Dick Griffith officiating. BRBRBillie was born in Aspermont, TX on April 3, 1932, to N.L. and Ella Mae Penson Altman. He married Audrey Lee on July 3, 1954 in Chelmsford Essex, England. Audrey passed away September 3, 1997. On October 24, 1998 he married Vergie Stovall Watkins in Abilene, a high school friend from Aspermont.BRBRBillie served in the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. He was stationed in Thailand, Korea and served in the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards during his service and he retired on June 1, 1973. He worked as a butcher at the commissary in England from 1973-1988. He belonged to the Military Retiree Association and was a Mason. BRBRHe is survived by his wife, Vergie Altman of Abilene; daughter, Sabrina Ford of Abilene; son, Billy Altman Jr. of Abilene; mother, Ella Mae Altman of Aspermont; sister and husband, Iva-Jean and Reg Hatch of Corpus Christi; grandson, Terrell Ford of CA.; great grandson, Omari Ford of CA; and nephew, Tommy Thomas of Plano. BRBRFamily requests memorials to be made to the Liberty Plaza Memorial, co KTAB, 4510 S. 14th, Abilene, TX 79605.
